Throughout my academic journey at the University of Arizona I have perused the integration of radical politics and artistic expression. I have covered a number of political topics both international and local but for my senior thesis project I have elected to go for something personal. 84 is the story of the 1984 Miner’s Strike in the United Kingdom, a strike that my grandfather participated in. The 1984 strike was ultimately crushed by the government of Prime Minster Margret Thatcher and had massive ramifications for my family and their community. This project explores the politics and ramifications of the strike through a decidedly pro-miner lens. The black and white presentation is meant to invoke the black soot of coal.
